For the fifty years up to 1921, it was home to collector of fine art, drawings and porcelain, friend of royalty and noted polymath, Henry Wagner. On his death in Brighton in 1926, much of Henry Wagner's extensive collections went to the nation, thus confirming the quality of his taste in these rarefied matters.
